Make your outward appearance reflect your inner self.

Turn back the clock, and lift loose neck skin and jowls with a facelift by Dr. Westine.

Sound familiar? “I hate my neck!” “My friends say I look sad and tired.”

Along with these common phrases from patients considering a facelift, we also hear “I don’t want to look plastic, or too tight, or to look like someone else”.

Dr. Westine believes that a facelift should restore a youthful and natural balance to the face, leaving his patients looking and feeling like a younger version of themselves. It is essential to maintain those traits that define an individual.

After surgery, his patients remark “It’s as if I am seeing a reflection in a mirror from years ago. That’s me 15 years ago!” His expertise is the result of performing thousands of facelifts on men and women with unique anatomy and aging changes. He views the face globally, examining every patient for:

  • skin texture and laxity
  • muscle laxity
  • bone structure/dental occlusion
  • facial volume loss
  • for symmetry and balance

Each patient and plan is special, with Dr. Westine listening and collaborating with his patients to achieve their aesthetic goals.

What can a facelift do?

A facelift or rhytidectomy is a safe, effective surgical procedure performed to restore a more youthful appearance of the neck and jawline (the lower third of the face) without compromising function. A facelift can address:

  • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face that creates jowls
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw, also called “turkey-neck”
  • Sagging in the mid-face
  • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth resulting in an angry appearance or a scowl
  • Loose skin on the neck

What is the difference between a full-face lift, mini-facelift and a Deep plane facelift?

These terms are more useful for marketing purposes rather than an actual description of the surgical procedure itself, given the artistic nature of each surgeon’s individual approach.

A full- facelift often refers to a rhytidectomy combined with other procedures to address the middle and upper third of the face. For example, a patient may have a facelift, browlift and fat transfer to the middle face. These are separate procedures that address the entire face, hence the term “full facelift”.

A mini-facelift is a smaller version of a facelift that typically addresses the lower third of the face, jowls and neckline.

The common denominator in all meaningful facelifts is tightening the Deep Plane of the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurosis System), platysma muscle, and eliminating excess tissue and lax skin. This deep plane of muscular and fascial tissue must be surgically tightened in order to provide the strength and support for a good facelift.

Will I have a scar?

All surgery creates a wound and a scar. The terms short-scar or long-scar face lift may also be heard. The extent or length of the incisions will depend on the degree of aging changes present. The incision and subsequent scar is hidden in the natural creases of the ear, but the scar can extend behind the ear into the hair line. Longer extensions into the hairline may be necessary to address extra laxity in the neck. The anterior incisions in front of the ear, may be extended in order to help lift the lateral brow. Any hair line incision can be further camouflaged by using a trichophytic technique that allows hair to grow through the incision line, thus making nearly undetectable in most cases.

Am I ready for a facelift?

Patients with skin and tissue laxity along the jawline and neck are candidates for facelift surgery. There is not a best age to have a face lift. More elasticity in your skin and tissue will improve outcomes and longevity of your surgery. A woman in her 40’s may have results lasting for 10-15 years. However a woman in her late 60s will typically not experience the same surgical longevity. Having realistic expectations and goals is essential for an optimal experience.

Procedures often combined with facelift surgery

  • Laser Skin Resurfacing
  • Browlift
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Chin Implant
  • Fat Transfer
