Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)

Experience the boost of confidence created by a neck lift.

Many patients see Dr. Westine to address the loose skin dangling under the chin, also known as a “turkey wattle”. A neck lift may be the ideal solution.

The neckline is one of the most defining and beautiful characteristics of a youthful feminine profile. One of the most common concerns Dr. Westine hears from patients is sagging and fullness under the chin and on the neck (double chin). Many women complain of vertical neckbands becoming more prominent.  With age, the muscles become lax and more prominent beneath thinning skin.

He will utilize a different surgical approach depending on the degree of laxity and submental (under chin) fullness.  Dr. Westine evaluates:

  • skin type and texture
  • skin quality and laxity
  • symmetry and balance
  • muscle laxity
  • bone structure/dental occlusion
  • facial volume loss

Minimal Neck Laxity

  • Platysmaplasty If the issue is limited to submental fat under the skin and under the muscle, then a limited horizontal incision in the submental crease can be made allowing access for fat removal. Skin tightening is achieved without excising any skin. The muscles are also tightened.  This limits the incision and subsequent scar to the submental crease which hides well.
  • ThermiTight is a non-surgical radiofrequency modality that can be used to enhance skin tightening in the healing process and improve final results.

Moderate to Severe Neck Laxity

  • Rhytidectomy (lower facelift) This surgical approach addresses aging changes in the lower third of the face and   Due to connected muscle and fascia of the face and neck, a rhytidectomy will improve neck laxity without affecting the midface.

Procedures often combined with Neck lift surgery

  • Eyelid surgery
  • Facelift
  • Submental Liposuction
  • Laser Resurfacing
  • Botox to platysmal bands

Neck Lift for Men

One of the most common concerns Dr. Westine hears from his male patients is about the “turkey wattle” or the loose skin dangling under the chin. A well-defined or “chiseled” jawline is a hallmark characteristic of a masculine and youthful appearance.   Male patients want to restore the definition, but fear a feminized appearance.

Dr. Westine has extensive experience operating on the male face and neck. He understands the anatomical and psychological differences between the male and female patient. He will utilize a different surgical approach depending on the degree of laxity and submental (under chin) fullness.  Dr. Westine evaluates:

  • skin type and texture
  • skin quality and laxity
  • symmetry and balance
  • muscle laxity
  • bone structure/dental occlusion
  • facial volume loss

Moderate to Severe Neck Laxity

  • Direct Cervical Excision  One option is to directly excise the loose skin at the midline. This direct cervical excision does not address the jawline or the lower third of the face but is an effective technique in removing excess laxity under the chin and can extend down as far as the sternum for men with severe laxity.
  • Rhytidectomy (lower facelift)  This surgical approach addresses aging changes in the lower third of the face and   Due to connected muscle and fascia of the face and neck, a rhytidectomy will improve neck laxity without affecting the midface.
